Name: Desiree “Dez” Dupont
Alias/Code Name: Gravity Girl
Age: 15
Character Type: Meta-human
Gender: Female
Alignment: Good
Appearance:
Personality: Chipper, energetic and very much a people person. Desiree absolutely loves being a hero and doesn’t have any qualms about letting others know it. Being such a huge fan of costumed crusaders, she’s eager to get out there and follow in their footsteps. She’s very idealistic, seeing right and wrong as real, concrete concepts. Her enthusiasm can be somewhat grating, but she’s got an honest heart and a warm personality that usually helps make up for it. Naïve and still very much a greenhorn, she takes backseat to more experienced hero’s, hoping to learn from them. This doesn’t stop her from often getting in over her head as she rushes into situations without planning ahead. In summation, she attacks life with a zeal and has many of the trappings of a hero, just not much of the experience to back it up.
Likes: Cutting Edge Technology, Super Hero’s, Being a part of a group, designing clothing, her autograph collection
Dislikes: Spicy foods, mud, being underestimated, Dogs
Strengths: Huge amount of Potential, Strong commitment, Easy to get along with, Knows lots of super hero trivia, eager to improve herself, good at sewing
Weaknesses: No Combat Experience, Poor physical Conditioning, Bad at Math, Prone to fangirl outbursts, Superstitious
Powers/Weapons:
Gravikinesis: Desiree possesses the ability to produce and manipulate gravitons and anti-gravitons. This allows her to mentally change the strength of gravity, increasing or decreasing it as well as reversing it entirely, As well as changing the direction upon which it acts. Upon first gaining this ability, she will be limited to fairly rudimentary uses, only being able to alter her own gravitational field. Her powers manifest themselves as a shimmering dark blue, while her antigravity fields are a deep red.
-Immunity to Falling: The most fundamental use of her manipulation of gravity is the subconscious act of limiting the influence of gravity on her body when falling, so that regardless of how far she falls, she always lands softly enough to avoid any bodily harm. This can be consciously overridden if she chooses.
-Subjective Gravity: By realigning her personal field, she can change how gravity acts on her, setting its orientation in any direction she desires. This allows her to walk along any surface simply by changing it so that her subjective ‘down’ is towards the surface.
-Gravity Aided Jumping: Decreasing the pull of gravity on her body, Desiree can perform very long jumps, clearing hundreds of feet in a single bound.
-Gravity Drop: Changing her gravitic orientation towards an individual and allowing herself to fall into them, Desiree takes advantage of her own immunity to harm from falling to slam into them.
With further practice, her control will extend to other objects and people, altering the way gravity interacts with them by making physical contact. This effect lingers for a short time after contact is broken, no more than a minute or so at most.
-Gravity Assisted Lift: Decreasing the weight of an object allows her to lift much heavier weights than she would normally be able to, allowing her to simulate some aspects of enhanced strength.
-Fling: A fairly straightforward application of her power, she sets an individuals gravitational field a direction other than down, causing them to ‘fall’ away from her, sending them flying.
-Gravity Pin: Enhancing the force of gravity to the point where it exceeds the ability of a persons body to stand, she pins them to the ground (Or another surface).
-Antigravity: Inducing an Antigravity field, Desiree causes the individual to be repelled rather than attracted to the natural gravity of the earth, causing them to float upwards.
Lastly, after much practice and field experience, the Desiree will learn to overcome the limitation of physical contact, and will be able to influence the force of gravity at a distance. While there is no hard and set maximum as to how far she can act, it is typically within her range of vision. Since she no longer needs to maintain contact, Desiree can sustain her gravitational alterations as long as she consciously chooses to. Her power typically is at its strongest when she can focus on a single target, and weakens as she divides her attention.
-Flight: At this point, her control over her own gravity has reached enough fine control to allow her to fly by constantly altering her own field.
-Gravity Shields: Surrounding herself or another with a field of gravitons, She deflects incoming attacks by causing them to sharply bend upon hitting the field, missing their target entirely. Since gravity affects energy as well as matter, this can shield against both effectively.
-Gravikinetic Manipulation: Though precise alterations of gravitons, Desiree can effectively mimic telekinesis, moving objects at a distance. Her fine manipulation will be fairly limited, but basic movement will be fairly simple to accomplish.
-Graviton Beam: Producing a very strong, concentrated beam of Gravitons, Desiree forces them into a unidirectional force beam which causes anything that comes in contact with it to experience a powerful gravitational flux. The effect of which is highly damaging to most materials which rapidly are torn apart by the force of the beam.
It is likely that as she grows older and gains experience, her power will continue to develop.
History: Most people, for better or worse, like the hero’s who help keep them safe. Then, there are people like Desiree. She absolutely loved the spandex clad vigilanties who patrolled the streets and skies, indeed, idolizing them. Her bedroom was more of a shrine towards the justice league and the avengers than anything. She collected all manner of photographs, news clippings and memorabilia. If a Hero had a fan clud, you can bet she was a member. If not, she’d be the one to found one for them.
This entire heroic obsession concerned her parents, but they never thought it was doing her much harm. After all, she gained a strong moral compass from her idols, which was more than could be said for other children who tried to emulate rappers or gang members. What they didn’t like is how their daughter often got herself into trouble, trying to follow her sense of right and wrong. Quite a few times, one of them would need to be called in to school because their child had gotten into a fight while trying to protect other students from bullies. A noble gesture, but one that typically ended with her receiving a sound beating before teachers arrived to step in. They tried to curb her impulses without stifling her energy. They we’re met with little success, Desiree’s commitment to her ideal’s was simply to strong.
It was this commitment which ended up changing her life, pushing her from the role of spectator to heroine herself. While waiting for the bus to school one morning, Desiree witnessed a flash of blue energy as a rift in space opened up before her. Out of the rift appeared a spherical device, something far beyond that which could have been made with modern science. An oncoming driver swerved to avoid the rift, crashing only a few feet away from the device.
Not thinking, Desiree rushed in to help. She pried the car door open and began ferrying the passengers away, but with her weak build, this proved to be extrodinarily difficult. The device also seemed to be powering up, though for what was anyones guess. Dez’s gut told her it was unlikely to be good. With nobody else on hand to help, and afraid that the sphere would go off before she could get herself and the car passengers clear, she went with the only option that seemed reasonable.
Taking ahold of the device, she tried to carry it away from any buildings or people. She made it a few hundred feet when it detonated. The sphere had been an explosive, one which erupted in a flurry of gravitons. The fundamental particles scorched the area, the fluxations in gravity tearing through anything in their path.
Desiree should have been killed, but she somehow survived. Rather than being broken apart by the energy unleashed, she seemed to emerge battered but otherwise unharmed. It was only when she awoke at the hospital that the change she’d undergone became clear. Her body no longer seemed confined to obay the normal rules of gravity, as she discovered upon floating up to the ceiling and staying there. She could now manipulate her own gravity.
Desiree was ecstatic, riding on cloud 9. All her life, she’d admired hero’s, wanted to be like them, to help people, and now she could do it. She knew that her family would certainly forbid this kind of behavior, but she didn’t care. Making herself a costume, she took to the streets in secret.
Her initiation into the world of masked crime fighters was mixed. She had some successes, but usually was swiftly defeated by the criminals she tried to apprehend. A 15 year old girl, even one with the best of intentions, was still little match for a mugger. Hiding her bruises was just as tough as hiding her powers from those close to her, especially when you consider just how much she wanted to let her friends into her newfound abilities. But thanks to her fixation on heroic culture, she was quite accustomed to the importance of a secret identity.
