N one could say he wasn't one for showmanship . . when it was appropriate to his desires, but everyone knew Duncan was quiet by nature. Sure, harsh, mean, down right unlikable unless you understood what was going on underneath- and sometimes even then- but he'd keep to himself if he had his way.
He only had two real passions. Only two things he would let himself go for. Music, and her. They brought the world together for him. They shattered the noise and the confusion and the pain and allowed him a moment of peace, an island of sanity where nothing could set him off.
They gave him control when he had a tendency to always feel just a breath away from losing it.
So with all of this considered, it was no surprise the first time he stepped into the Karaoke Bar. There was no preamble to the song, no lead up no rush onto stage. He was as quiet and controlled as ever as he took the steps, as he picked up the mic. His face was empty even as he began to sing the song- fitting in a way, for what he had chosen.
His dark eyes focused on no one in particular, and to him, the room might as well have been abandoned. He didn't care about anyone there. Sure, he was learning to mellow a bit, not to be so hostile, but that didn't mean he gave an individual care for much of anyone. . . not yet. No one except her anyway.
As the music started, he did not even bother to look at the screen of rolling lyrics across the room. He knew them, he knew every song he had ever heard by heart.

My reflection, dirty mirror
There's no connection to myself
I'm your lover, I'm your zero
I'm the face in your dreams of glass
So save your prayers
For when we're really gonna need'em
Throw out your cares and fly
Wanna go for a ride?
She's the one for me
She's all I really need
Cause she's the one for me
Emptiness is loneliness, and loneliness is cleanliness
And cleanliness is godliness, and god is empty just like me
Intoxicated with the madness, I'm in love with my sadness
Bullshit fakers, enchanted kingdoms
The fashion victims chew their charcoal teeth
I never let on, that I was on a sinking ship
I never let on that I was down
You blame yourself, for what you can't ignore
You blame yourself for wanting more
She's the one for me
She's all I really need
She's the one for me
She's my one and only
There's no connection to myself
I'm your lover, I'm your zero
I'm the face in your dreams of glass
So save your prayers
For when we're really gonna need'em
Throw out your cares and fly
Wanna go for a ride?
