History: Katalyn Jean Downs came for an upper class family and was born in upstate New York. When Katalyn was 10 the family moved to New York City her father had been promoted from his current position at the company that he worked for to a new position in New York City. Katalyn was happy about the move and wanted to see New York City. Over the next 3-4 years Katalyn breezed through her school studies and held an A+ average. Katalyn’s parents were very proud of their daughter and when she was 15 she went to boarding school only after a year Katalyn completed all the courses at the boarding school and the boarding school told Katalyn’s parent there wasn’t anything more they could do to help Katalyn with getting ready for college and Katalyn wouldn’t have any trouble getting into the Ivy league colleges.
At 16 and after picking out the best Ivy League school that Katalyn would go to. Katalyn majored in Business Management and also took several other courses such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Paralegal. Katalyn quickly worked her way through college and on the side worked part-time as a bouncer at a local bar she would help pay her parents back for sending her through college.
When Katalyn wasn’t studying or working, she would take Mauy Thai (kick boxing), Taekwondo and karate lessons during the classes she quickly moved through the ranks with ease and rose to the rank of black belt 3rd degree. She has put the karate lessons to the side eventually she will continue the lessons.
It was during Katalyn’s last year of college that she was badly injured it was during a bar fight, Katalyn was trying to break up a fight between two men that were slightly bigger than she was. More or less the men didn’t like the fact that Katalyn was breaking up their fight.
One of the men threw her to the side and went after Katalyn, She put up a really good fight with the first guy and managed to kick the guy out of the bar but the other guy came after her as well and Katalyn wasn’t that luck with this one and took a brutal she was thrown into tables or slammed into tables. One of the tables had an ash tray on it when Katalyn hit the table knocking if off onto the ground and a cigarette rolled under another table it was still lit and the table cloth caught fire. The other customers saw the smoke and the fire and they all quickly left the bar. Katalyn smelled the smoke and saw the fire between punches. She managed to knock out the second guy she was trying to kick out, she drags him out of the bar and she goes back in to make sure everyone is out of bar.
The bar was nearly full of fire and smoke, she quickly goes to the ground and searches the bar just before she was about to leave she heard the bar tender and she went for him. Katalyn and the bar tender were about 20 feet from the exit when part of the ceiling caved in and pinned Katalyn’s right arm. She told the bar tender to get out while he had the chance and tell the firefighters where she was. The bar tender did as he was told and got out. After 20 minutes once the dust settled Katalyn suffered a broken right arm in several different places from the shoulder down to her hand, with her hand and wrist taking the worst of it and she found out that the hand and wrist was crushed when the beam pinned her arm.
After going through several operations the Doctors did all they could to help Katalyn regain as much range of motion to her hand and wrist, but there would be permanent damage to her hand and wrist. Despite the setbacks with classes Katalyn managed her best. She only had about 50-55% Range of motion to her hand and wrist. Katalyn could only move her hand and fingers so far and use her hand for a short amount of time before it would stiffen up and hurt.
Katalyn finished college at the age of 24 with top honors despite her injured hand it certainly didn’t stop her from finishing college. She took a short break after college to see if she could build something that would help her with the range of motion to bring it up almost normal in her hand and wrist. She knew that being in the work force would demanding and only have 50-55% range of motion in her hand just would not cut it. She had several different ideas on what could build and she put them on her laptop computer and a memory stick of what would help her hand and wrist.
Little by little with what money she had between working temp work and on occasion she asked her parents for extra money to help her with the project that she was working on. Several months later Katalyn finished the project.
Katalyn built a light weight brace for her hand and wrist inside the brace there are small electromagnets that give off little electric waves that stimulate the muscles in her hand, fingers and wrist which will help giving her almost full range of motion also it in the brace she built a small battery that would need recharging once a day, and the brace worked well for sometime before Katalyn had to figure out building a better brace for her injured hand.
Katalyn then set out to find real work and it didn’t take long for her to find the work she wanted and found work at Stark Enterprises. At a steady pace she worked herself from the bottom of the secretary pool to the top of the pool over a year or so and Katalyn even worked with Pepper Potts for a short time then found herself working as Mr. Stark’s PA filling in for Pepper while she is away.
It was during a morning meeting with Mr. Stark that Katalyn’s brace decided it was going give off a show. She had managed to keep the injury a secret until now, the brace was giving off too much electrical wave to her hand and wrist this was very painful and Katalyn had dropped several notebooks and a few other things from her hand to the floor among the few things was her memory stick that held her designs for her brace. Holding her hand she hoped that Mr. Stark didn’t see it. It was too late he has saw what happened asked what was wrong.
Katalyn felt really embarrassed and she was nerves she explained the best she could about the injury and that she had built the brace on her own it wasn’t the best she could do but she didn’t have the money to build a better quality brace. And the battery was giving way it was at the end of its life. She took a breath and asked Mr. Stark if she could use one of his labs so she could build a better brace for her injured hand.
