I have slumbered for too long. Let these mortals play their games and think me weak. Held in the sway of my own pocket dimension, the shard...but if I am to rebuild my world, I cannot remain at rest. I need souls...
and Very soon I shall have them. By some chance of faith creature has come to my realm, having the temerity to think he can claim my heart to feed his masters...foolish of him and of his creator.
I dealt with him, but found an artifact of great interest in his remains. A ring, black as night, emblazoned with a rune I do not recognize....but a powerful tool in its own right. Capable of reanimating the dead, bring thme back in service of a willfull master.
I shall make more of these rings, and then unleash them upon the world that so harmed my own. Their souls shall bring about my rebirth.
Darkness falls, and the blackest night is coming.
OOC: Basicly, Rune is going to create his own Blackest Night event on the board. I'm looking for some good zombies to help him out with that. They can be dead allready, or we can kill and bring them back for the purposes of the event. Additionally, our resident 5th dimensional Imp will be raising her own rainbow coalition to fight the horde.
We need at max two lanterns of each color. Each color is powered by a particular emotion, so please give some thought to which one best exemplifies the color in question. You can of course have as many black lanterns as you'd like, and may even bring back entire groups if you wish
Red - Rage - Wolverine - Juggernaut
Green - Willpower - Howard the Duck - Cyclops - Daredevil
Indigo - Compassion -Beast
Blue - Hope -Superman - Spiderman
Purple - Love -Tarot
Orange - Avarice -Venom - Gambit - Rogue
Yellow- Fear - Deadpool - Sabretooth
Black - Rune
I'm going to post further information defining the powersets of each ring later, but in the mean time just check with wikipedia to find out what they can do.

Oh yes, and some details are still up in the air on the actual plot. I'd like to hear some input on how you feel they should be hancled.
1.) Should this plotline be on the main board, or a What If? adventure? I prefer mainstream as it gives Rune some street cred as a badguy in this universe, but I'm very open to other people's opinions on the subject.
2.) I'm not set on a name as yet. If you can suggest a better one than what I've got, I'll be more than happy to use it instead.
3.) Since this plotline is not directly tied to DC's Blackest Night, the same rules they set down need not apply. Zombies might be amenable to a simple gunshot to the head, or they might be every bit as unkillable as the comic versions. I leave it to you to decide which way we should go on that.
4.) The colors listed are those of the DC lantern Corps....That doesn't nessecerily mean those are ALL the colors that can be had. If you want a color not yet colored, just lay out what you've got in mind.

Sohnodachier of earth, you have the ability to feel great compassion. Welcome to the Indigo Tribe
sundance is the only character whom Im absolutly certain belongs with a ring on her finger.
Other certainties
Zero of Earth, you have great rage in your heart. You belong to the red lantern corps
Zero from the hifumi will be a red lantern. god help us all.
Mistress twilight will be a black lantern and act as a general for Rune.
Possibilities at this point. Kissaki-Yellow
Supergirl-blue
Alice-Violet
black lanterns
Psychosis
Silver spark
and additional thoughts I had
DC characters may wish to keep from following to closely to their cannon counterparts
For the matter of regeneration, perhaps a possibility is that the more hearts an individual black lantern absorbs, the greater its healing abilities. That way characters whom lack superhuman abilites can still fight against the dead who's rings are less charged, and therefore, more vulnerable.
thats about my 2 cents worth

Characters for consideration for the different corps.:
Spider-Man: Blue
Juggernaut: Red
Gambit: Orange
Cyclops: Green
Two-Face: Orange/Red (duel rings not possible I know, but still cool)
As for Black Lanterns:
Thunderbird (same thing as other DC heroes, being reclaimed by death)
Bonehead
Dove
Mastermind
Ghost Rider
*possibly more later*
I'm fine with this happening in the main board, just as long as the threads are clearly marked so there's no confusion. And the current title works, though I hope no one mistakes it with that crappy Tooth Fairy movie. Man did that suck...
As for the zombies, they should atleast put up some fight. I agree with GZ, that the more powered they are, the harder they are to kill.
I think if we make more colored rings, it would get kinda ridiculous. Like say:
Gray rings: apathy (wouldn't take anyone's side in a fight, not even other gray lanterns)
Pink rings: glee (an entire group of overly optimistic, hyperactive teen-like lanterns? Goddess help up)
Brown rings:....no comment

Tarot is perfect for purple. Her powers are that exact shade of 'almost pink', and as she runs around nude at LEAST 85% of her comic, a tiny pink outfit would not be so wrong on her.
And, if Hawkeye agrees, A black ring bringing Kenika Ket up, would solve allot of issues booting that character into actually being playable for the first time since we first put her up.
And of course, Cheshyre will be the agent of chaos handing out the rings.
I have all SORTS of characters that can jump into roles and fill spots, (I still believe Integral Hellsing needs a green ring) But, I'll only add them on a need basis as things go.
Also: especially if the Kenika spot is going to happen, putting it in the regular timeline is essential... if I only bring her up in a 'what if' setting, it means nothing and is a collosal waste of time.
so... these are my thoughts on it.

lol, other ring options based on the light spectrum and extending on the ideas of the orignal rings with those below green begin negitive while those above are positive
radio- treachery: A 'corp' founded that fights itself more than others, constantly seeking to vie for power, lying, deceptive, dangerious.
Microwaves- Blasphemy- destruction of others ideals and beliefes, smiters of faith and hope, athiestic to the extream.
infrared- pain: a corp founded on troture, misery, suffering, anguish. macocists and sadist, seeking out strife for their own pleasure
and above the light spectrum we have
ultraviolet: Peace: devoted to nonviolence, this corps defends rather than attacks, converting others to their ways and spreading tranquility in their wake.
x-rays: honesty: negotiators and arbitors, taking no sides and seeking only to establish order and law throught the cosmos.
gamma rays: FOR SCIENCE is their motto. wise men, scholars, and all people of knowledge, seeking to uncover all understadning in the universe. enlightened
also, I think the limit on 2 rings per corp is to low.
And thirdly, to ensure that the plot keeps moving, we may want to set a time limit, that if a person is unable to post for whatever reason, that after a set length of time, to ensure the plot keeps moving, they're character is killed and becomes a blacklantern, thus keeping it moving.

Okay, I've gotten a Lot of feedback on this storyline, so I think its time I give some response to things, get them moving forward a little. Allright, firstly I'm going to go with the idea that black lanterns grow more powerful the more souls they collect. That makes alot of sense, and should help greatly with plot purposes. Secondly, I think its key to address some questions I've had raised to me regardinging the motivations of the black lanterns and their place in the overall plot. I'm going to deal with this briefly here, and then expand on it when I cover ring colors later on. Black lanterns, as they exist in DC comics, cannot work on the board as it stands. Immortal, implacable foes would wipe out 90% of our heroes in a brief span of time, and leave the board a ruin. So, in this storyline what we're getting are my edition of Black Lanterns, creations that fuse Rune's unique brand of magicks with pieces of Neckron's original work. Consequently, the lanterns possess far less durability initially, as they don't have a cosmic level entity feeding them power. They aren't actually connected to Neckron at all, and instead are sort of bootleg black lanterns. When Rune posts the starter thread, you'll see more what i have in mind on that context. Also, since our Black Lanterns are bootlegs, it only makes sense that our different corp rings would also be bootlegs. In this case they're power rings created at Cheshyre's whim, using her extradimensional knowledge of the corp. Functionally, they should opperate in the same way as ordinary lantern rings, but because Cheshyre has created them for her play, she'll be toning down some of the negative effects that might say...turn red lanterns into mindless killing machines...or make the orange lanterns spontantiously kill each other to keep from sharing the orange light. These desires will be present, but toned down enough to work in play. Finally, I have heard your pleas Having a flat number of lanterns on the board does infact limit what you can take quite a bit, and so I've decided to shift the limiting factor around a bit. Instead I'm limiting each player to one ring of each color (except black, which is limited only by how many walkign corpses you want.) This means you can have one blue, one red, one orange, one indigo, one purple, and one green. I think that arrangement should be far more equitable for what we want to do. Please take a look at your listings and adjust them for that limitation. I'm going to split off the roster list into a sepperate thread when I cover the various corps, so you can hold off until then if you'd like. This thread will be used more for general planning of the event.

I would be willing to let Red Arrow be killed and returned as a black lantern so long as he could be saved in the end.
As far as my other characters go:
I would put Colossus in the compassion light if any.
Casey Jones I think would be in the green for his will.
Match i think could be kinda interesting. First he may belong to Rage, but then because of his nature he may receive a compassion ring, then back to rage again cause the spectral field of emotions are confused by his nature. Just an idea ta think about.
I dunno if you wanna allow Casey jones in this but I think he would make one hell of a green lantern.
Any and all of these characters are available if you want them. I'll understand if you dont want to use any of them.
Also any of thes characters are available as nonlanterns if you think you need them.

DD is either Indigo or Green. Indigo because he's a learned man who cares deeply about other people and justice itself as to basically adopt the identity of justice, or Green because he's the Man Without Fear. I'll leave that ultimate decision up to TPTB.

HELLO NURSE!!!! See, I can tell by the lacking postage on this plot, that perhaps people are worried about details and stuff. So... I'm gonna repeat this all official like, to try and help that out: This plot is OUR take on the rings... OUR rings are copies, and NOT real lantern rings. SO: the details do NOT have to be so close a match. If you haven't read the ring comics at all, you shouldn't have to worry about it. Since Rune made the Black rings and fuels them, and I made the colors, and I fuel them, things really can't and SHOULDN'T be the same as the comics's rings with their proper batteries. Wade even pokes some 4th wall-breaking fun at this in his last post in Skittles, his ring asking him to register with the DC Yellow Battery and all... If any details are even a little off, my own magick being a cause gives everyone free licence to give their own personal (in character personal I mean) Interpetations of how these things work and feel. So... relax. Have some fun with it. And be sure to post on the Darkness Rising board... (I actually posted mine in New York on local... which was WRONG... there's a board for this...) And... Just remember folks: I made the color rings... I fuel them... And I have never read any of the DC Ring plot. My power can be the scapegoat!

Okay, there seems to be a bit of confusion on how this plot is supposed to go, so I'm going to go ahead and lay out the basics here.
1.) This plot is designed to take place in four stages, with one main villain per stage. The first Stage is Nostra in San Fransisco, dealing with the X-men and any titans who want in on it. Second stage will take place in Gotham and involve Mistress Twilight and DC heroes and villains mostly. Third stage will have Kineka and take place in New York with all the heroes there. Fourth and final stage involves the final assault of Rune in his Shard. Those are the main plots, one thread per plot, one at a time.
2.) Sideplots are encouraged and nessecery. The main plots will deal with the zombie battles. If you want to do something specific too your character that doesn't involve Night of the Living Dead action(Deadpool goes in search of Lemon Sherbert to power his ring) you should do that in a sideplot. This will keep the main storyline streamlined, and keep it from being too convoluted to move forward. KISS, as they say. Please keep in mind that sideplots can take as long to wrap up as you want to take. Theres no specific timeline on them.
3.) This event takes place on the Darkness Rising board for a reason. Its an event. It happens, and then its over. Its very possible to just set threads after the plot if you want to keep things moving. This plot is going to take some time to finish, and theres no reason to hold up the board as a whole over that.
