Appearance:
Name: Dream
Alias or Code-name: Morpheus, Onerous, The Dream King, The Sandman, Lord Shaper, Kai’ckul, numerous others
Powers/Weapons: Nigh-omnipotent power over dreams and reality. Whenever someone falls asleep or otherwise unconscious they enter his realm, the dreaming, where he is free to rule and do anything he can imagine. He manipulates the dreaming as though it were an extension of himself. He has a complete reign over fiction in reality, and as a side effect, his appearance changes depending on who’s watching. People generally perceive him as wearing a style of dress appropriate to their region and era. He appears to be light skinned when interacting with white characters, but the people of "Tales in the Sand's" primordial African city see him as a star-eyed black man. Although he is most often seen in human form, Morpheus appears as a magnificent cat when speaking to the lonely cat-pilgrim of "Dream of a Thousand Cats" and as a cat-headed god when addressing feline goddess Bast; superhero The Martian Manhunter sees Morpheus as a Martian god in the shape of a flaming alien skull, but Mr. Miracle, looking at him simultaneously, sees Morpheus as a man. However in Season of Mists, he appears in the same form to all the Gods (The Egyptian Goddess Bast Comments "I much prefer you in cat form, Dream old friend"). It is unclear whether Morpheus's appearance is determined by the expectations of onlookers or if he chooses to manifest himself in different forms.
Origin: The origin and exact nature of the Endless is unknown. Few hints are ever given in the series as to exactly why the Endless exist. They seem to be natural forces.
The Endless are as old as the concepts that they represent. They are said to be older than the fairyfolk, gods, and other supernatural beings. Their exact ages in years are unknown, but they are known to have existed long before life on Earth. They have manifested themselves in alien civilizations from long before the creation of the Earth. Death has claimed that she was there when the first living thing stirred, and Destiny has said that Dream gave the Earth itself the fond dream of being able to support life.
Dream lives his life under his responsibilities as king of all dreams, and so has little time to spend creatively. He has ruled over the Dreaming for billions of years, it’s sole king and source. He has created a castle for him to live in, in the Dreaming. He also populates it with other creatures, which exist alongside those wondering his realm while unconcious. It is said that he created these servants and guards and general inhabbitants out of lonliness.
Over the years he has had involvment with many women, all of which ended badly, which has left an effect on him as he is now quite secluded and serious. He makes very few friends, but does share a close bond with his sister, Death.
Character is from: "The Sandman" series by Neil Gaiman
