Alan looked down at his desk in his office at the Brownstone. It was now clear of work, everything filled out and filed, except for one lone Xerox form. He stared at it for another minute, and then, resigned, sat down at his chair to fill it out.
He had put it off for over a week, and he knew Maxine, who had asked him to fill it out, would be again shyly asking him how it was coming the next time he saw her. He knew she had asked every member of the JSA to fill one out, so she could as fully as possible understand each member, making up for her limited experience with the team. Still, she did not know what she was asking of Alan, who had more pain then pleasure looking in his rear-view mirror.
"No sense putting it off any longer" he thought, and picked up his pen. "OK, the basics..."
First Name: Alan
Last Name: Scott
Alias: Green Lantern
Height:6 feet
Weight: 200 #
Age...
"Age. What the heck is the answer to that?" he asked himself. "I was born in 1915, so that would make me 92, 93 later this year. I lived a whole lifetime or more in another dimension staving off Ragnarok, which translated to 5 years or so in the here and now. I haven't aged a day in years, since that business with the Starheart, so how does that figure in?"
He picked up his pencil again.
Age: N/A
Powers: Utilizing the power of the Green Flame of Life through a magical ring, the Green Lantern can pretty much do anything. He is limited only by his will-power and drive to win. Green Lantern is most often seen using the powers:
-energy blast
-flight
-force field
-intangibility
-invisibility
-mind control
He is also capable of making an unlimited array of energy constructs, but chooses to refrain from doing so whenever possible. Such energy constructs are the primary power attributed to the Green Lantern Corp. Since the Guardians have chosen to remove their age-old edict against the taking of life, Alan Scott has chosen to show his unhappiness with that decision by "boycotting" anything that will associate him with the GLC. He considered changing his name back to Sentinel, but decided against it.
"I had it first" he said out loud, "at least on this little Mud-ball of a planet. I didn't need to make the rign create a bunch of green dinosaurs and robots back in the early days. I can do without them now."
History: "Now, this is the hard part" he said out loud and put the pencil down. "I could write a book, though why anyone would want to read it I don't understand. I will write it in bullets as best I can" he said out loud, hoping it would suffice for the young Cyclone.
- In 1939 Alan Scott, a young engineer, was in a train wreck. He survived the accident and discovered a magical green train lantern, which told him it's tale and promised to bring him power over dark things if he would forge a ring from the base of the lantern. He did so and used his new power to revenge himself on the saboteur who had caused the train wreck, a rival named Albert Decker.
"I am not sure I need to elaborate in writing on the nature of the Starheart. It is hard for me to get it right anyway. The lantern told me that the Starheart was a piece of a sentient collection of magic that had been gathered by the Guardians ages and ages ago. Somehow the piece of the Starheart that fell to Earth and called itself the Green Flame of Life had merged with a dying member of the GLC named Yalan Gur, explaining the too-coincidental duplication of the "Green Lantern" motif. Even with the time I spent merged with the Starheart I still don't quite understand all of what transpired."
-Green Lantern fashioned a costume designed to frighten evil-doers, and used his powers to fight evil. He joined forces with other "Mystery Men" of the day in forming the JSA at the bequest of FDR. Unable to take the battle to the Nazi menace in WWII since Hitler had managed to secure the Spear of Destiny, the JSA fought the good fight on the home front.
-In 1945 the JSA was shunted to an alternate dimension, fighting an endless battle to stave off Ragnarok. They were trapped in that land for what seemed to be 20 lifetimes, but in actuality returned to Earth in the late 1940s. They had not aged in that strange land, and so looked as they had in 1945.
-In 1955 he married Rose/Thorn and had two children who would grow up to be the heroes Obsidian and Jade. He continued as a hero and as a businessman.
- Green Lantern fought Extant in Zero Hour, and was aged close to his true age, which caused a semi-retirement.
-For a time Green Lantern merged with the Starheart and regained his youth and vitality. He changed his name to Sentinel. His then wife Molly (the reformed villain Harlequin) was disturbed by his newfound youth while she was old, and so sold her soul to Neron. Sentinel fought the demon in the Nether World and regained her soul with the help of the Phantom Stranger and Zatanna.
- After a time Alan became Green Lantern again, and aged again to at least a partial reflection of his true age.
- Green Lantern joined Donna Troy and others in space to face Alexander Luthor during the Infinite Crisis. His daughter Jade died during that adventure and Alan returned to Earth minus one eye. His daughter managed to eventually reach him beyond the grave later and replace his missing eye with a green orb that can sense mystical and spiritual entities.
- Alan Scott was for a time the White King of Checkmate, but left the organization over a difference of opinion regarding the use of lethal force.
- He now acts as a senior member of the JSA, helping the younger members as he can.
Alan put the pen down. "A pitiful effort" he mumbled to himself. "Nothing about the pain of losing Rose, of how I failed my kids. Obsidian with all of his troubles. Jenny died in my arms, no blame for me in her eyes. No blame at all...". He paused and wiped his eye. "So much missing, but I don't think I can do this anymore. If I forgot anything she can ask me."
He dropped the pencil, turned off the light and left the room.
