Wish Granting- Sundance possess the ability to grant wishes. The actual nature of this power is not entirely understood, and seems to be some manner of matter manipulation, but beyond that is difficult to say. What can be said is that with this power, Sundance can reshape the world around her. As powerful as this ability is, it does possess several very strict limitations. They are listed below.
Sundance is physically bound to a small silver armband with an inlayed emerald. It is her tether to this world, and the means with which she is bound. The possessor of this object is her master, and the only person who may command her. She is bound to obey the bracelets owner, following their commands to the letter (Though not necessarily the spirit or intent of their commands). She is bound to protect her master and will be forced to intervene if she becomes aware of any danger to them. Secondly, Sundance is physically incapable of being moved more than two miles from the bracelet at any time, no force can move her beyond these limits. The bracelet also is her lifeline, and harm caused to it is likewise caused to her. Though she can repair it, this takes a fair amount of time and effort. If it were to be totally destroyed, she would die. Lastly, Sundance has a limited relation to the bracelets current state, for instance feeling very cold if the bracelet is in a cold environment, or hot if kept in a hot one.
Limitations and clarifications on wishing.
0. Sundance is not limited in the number of wishes she may grant to any given person. She is bound to serve for One Hundred thousand years, regardless of how many wishes she grants. Nothing can change this length of servitude. She cannot be wished free.
1. Sundance can only use the full extent of her power when it is wished for by her master. On her own, she is limited to fairly minor prestidigitation, making small objects appear and disappear, chaning her appearence, teleporting short distances, as well as the ability to fly.
2. If her master commands her in the form of a wish, Sundance may access the full extent of her power, causing events to take place on a much larger and more lasting scale. While the full extent of her power is not completely clear, it is known that she may make an area of roughly one city block disappear(Provided this does not break other rules; see below). This act is quite taxing on her and would leave her so weakened that she wouldnt be able to move after doing so. Sundance is free to intemperate a wish however she pleases so long as the actual command is followed through and that any action taken by her falls within its parameters. The best example being that if her master wished for a billion dollars, she could give him a check for a billion dollars, or She could teleport him into a bank vault with the police surrounding him, if she so choose.
3. Sundance does not have power over life and death. She cannot directly kill people, nor can she revive them from the dead, nor can she create life. Note that it is stated she cannot kill people directly. She is free to put a person into a situation which is not safe for them, such as teleporting them to the middle of the ocean, or turning them into a bug so they could be stepped on. In any case, she hates hurting people, and so will try to avoid this in any way she can, either by interpreting a wish in a unusual way, or by leaving the recipient of her power a way out. She could teleport someone to the bottom of the ocean if commanded. But that wouldn’t stop her from putting them in a submarine, or giving them the ability to breath underwater.
4. Sundance cannot create anything equal to or greater than her own power, nor can she creates several things which combined would equal or exceed her power. This means she cannot turn people into Djinn, nor make them immortal or all powerful. She can bestow superhuman abilities, if commanded to.
5. Sundance is limited in her power to things she is knowledgeable about. In order for Sundance to grant a wish, she must know the basics of what is being wished for. She could not, for example, teleport anyone to a place she has never been to, or does not know the location of. Nor could she create something she hasn’t seen or had explained to her (Though if only explained, what she creates will be based upon that explanation). If she was to make a car, she’d need to know what a car is, though by seeing a few, she’d have enough understanding of what they look like and what they do to figure it out.
6. Sundance may not change the past or future, only the present. She cannot change events that have already happened, nor can she control events that will happen in the future. She could not change history so that America was never discovered, nor could she set what the winning lottery numbers will be. This doesn’t prevent her from setting up situations which would lead to a desired outcome, only that she cannot dictate how events will play out. So she could, for instance, cause a glitch in a computer system so that only one ticket is registered as being bought, thus leading to that one being the winning ticket (or possibly an investigation into the cause of the malfunction). In this way, the event desired did happen in the future, but the change she made was in the present, and still the possibility of happening differently than expected.
7. Sundance has no control over free will. She cannot make people believe certain things, nor control their emotions. She can erase memories, but cannot implant false ones. This is most often done to remove the knowledge of actions taken by her so that the consequences of a wish are not known to have happened. Proper stimulation can lead to recall of these memories.
8. Sundance continuously generates and stores magical power, which is used to enact her abilities. She is only capable of storing a certain amount at any given time, at which point any excess energy dissipates harmlessly. When using her abilities, this stores power is drained. So long as her rate of regeneration exceeds the rate at which her power is used, this is not a problem. Should she use power faster than she can recover it, then her stores begin to drop. Should they become low enough, she would begin losing the ability to grant wishes until such a time as she recovered. While there is no set way to determine how much power any given wish will use, the larger the scale the wish acts on, the more power it uses up. Depending on how much energy she has, it could take anywhere from minutes to an entire day to fully recover. All her other abilities are dependent on these stores of power, so using her abilities, even not when granting a wish, drains her stores proportionally.
9. Sundance's magic is self sustaining to the point where it takes time before it can be undone. Once a wish has been made, it takes roughly an hour before she could undo it. In some circumstances, this is not needed, as the result can be negated through different means. For instance, if one wish causes an object to catch fire, it would take an hour for Sundance to be able to simply make the fire no longer exist, or she could create rain or water which would put the fire out, achieving the same result. Other circumstances, such as the bestowal of powers, creation of objects for example, are more difficult to negate in this indirect way, and so must wait the required length of time.
10. In addition to being her tether to the world, the bracelet that Sundance is bound to acts as both a home and a prison to her. When she chooses, she may retreat there for safe keeping, or to rest. Inside the bracelet, her magical power recovers much quicker. While inside, she is not aware of the passage of time, nor of events happening around her. If she chooses to enter the bracelet, she may exit it whenever she chooses to, or may be forced out if someone were to rub the gemstone on the bracelet. However, if she was to touch the bracelet, she would be drawn into it, regardless of her will, and remain trapped there until released, again by rubbing the gem. Lastly, whoever her current master is, he or she may order Sundance back into her bracelet at any time, though doing so means she becomes trapped until released.
Other abilities:
Limited telepathy: Sundance has a weak telepathic link with her current master, such that she may be empathically aware of her master’s feelings, as well as have a pinpoint awareness of their location, regardless of distance between them. Additionally, if her master is touching either her Bracelet or Sundance herself, Sundance may telepathically connect with her master, and can receive commands mentally. Sundance may also use this telepathic link to access her master’s memories. This is usually done to help her get a better understanding of what it is her master is wishing for.
Magical Body: Sundance, as a DJinni, is not composed for flesh and blood, but is a form of magical energy given shape and sentience. She does not require sustenance, nor does she need to breath, beyond the magical energy she naturally absorbs, never needs to sleep nor does she tire, again so long as her magical power is maintained. She can perform these actions, sleeping and eating, but does not have to. While no more resistant to harm than an average person, Sundance is capable of healing from virtually any wound, if given enough time. Her rate of healing is approximatly the same as a humans when outside her braclet, and about five times faster when inside it. In the event of a fatle wound, she is forcibly taken into the brclet to recover, which takes about a weeks time, during which not even her master can draw her out. If wished for, her healing process can be accelerated, though this drains a good deal of magical power from her and leaves her drained.
Personality: Despite her age, Sundance is still a child at heart. Though friendly, outgoing, energetic, fun loving, kind hearted, warm and gentle, she is also rather immature, simple minded and clumsy. She has a loving heart, although is a bit naïve about people, often believing they have the best intentions when in truth they may very well have malicious plans. She’s not clever by any stretch of the imagination, easily confused and even easier to deceive. Her energetic nature and impulsive behavior, combined with her lack of wit makes her prone to causing trouble, usually unintentionally. She doesn’t usually try to twist wishes around, but still manages to cause trouble, either by misunderstanding her master’s intent, or by going overboard in the process of granting it. If her master complains it’s to hot, she might summon up a blizzard to ‘help’. She has very little grasp of the repercussions to her actions, indeed, rarely ever considers the consequences. She just does what she thinks is best, and hopes it’ll turn out ok. Thankfully, despite all her power, she has fairly simple tastes, and remains grounded in human activate, so has no need to cause mischief for entertainment. Not that doesn’t end up causing any mischief only that it’s not done on purpose. Occasionally, Sundance can get upset or board and throw little tantrums. Thankfully, such outbursts are few and far between, it’s not too hard for her to get over them. Sundance doesn’t like being imprisoned, but doesn’t see any way to escape it either, and so has resolved to make the best of things, and not to let it get her down.
History: Djinn are not born in the traditional sense, but rather formed out of the ether when the conditions are just right. This arcane art is only vaguely understood, even by the djinn themselves. What is known is that a proper magical radiance is required, from which it gains sentience and form, becoming a living being composed of magical power.
Sundance was ‘born’ in an Arabian oasis in the midst of a desert. Sunlight refracting accost a drop of dew by chance was able to act as a lenses, gathering not just light but magic, which bloomed into being as Sundance. In this way, she was created, three hundred years before the birth of Christ.
As a being of magic, Sundance was created fully formed as an adult, though her mind was still fresh and new, filled with childish sensibilities and curiosity. She had come into a world that she did not understand, yet instead of feeling fear or confusion, she was overjoyed and excited. She didn’t need a reason for existing, she was happy just to exist. She lived at the oasis of her birth, alone in some sense, yet content, because she had no reason to suspect there was any other way to be.
Sometime after her creation, Sundance had no reason to keep track of time and so didn’t know if was days or years later, a man wandered out of the desert towards her oasis. He was half dead from exhaustion and lack of water. Having never encountered another living think, Sundance was fascinated by this person, not even caring about how feeble he seemed. She tended to him, even as he was visited with delirium from the heat and his thirst.
When at last the man was better, he and Sundance began to speak. He was a human, and according to him, she was a Djinn. It was he who gave Sundance her name, Sohnodachier. He told her that it meant ‘my goddess’, because that was what he was to her. Sundance was enthralled by him. His clothing, his language, his past, everything. Keep in mind; she’d never met anyone but herself before. It was he who seemed fantastic and exotic, with his inability to fly and his need to eat and drink. He stayed with Sundance in the desert oasis for a long time, the two of them enjoying Eachothers Company. He had been a merchant, traveling from town to town selling his wares, but his caravan had been ambushed by raiders, he only just managed to escape, but had become lost in the dunes.
Without realizing it, the two had come to care for one another. So when the time came that the merchant sought to leave, wishing to return to his people, Sundance eagerly asked if she could come to. She wanted to see the caravans and the cities that he’d told her about. Of course, he allowed her to come. So the two left Sundance’s Oasis behind.
Sundance went everywhere with her companion, acting as his assistant. He advised her to keep a low profile, warning that many men would want her for her power if they discovered her true nature. Sundance promised to try her best and behave. Still, her efforts were not enough to contain her excitement upon seeing the first city of her life. She couldn’t resist taking to the skies, soaring through the streets as quick as the winds, seeing the vendors and the merchants, seeing the people and the buildings. Thankfully, she moved quick enough that few people got a good look at her, but even so, she certainly was scolded by her companion for her actions when he finally caught up. Following that, Sundance was much better behaved, though she still caused trouble in her wake, either from forgetting she was supposed to act human, or getting over excited and forgetting the laws and customs that human women were supposed to follow. Either way, the efforts to keep a low profile were unsuccessful, and word started getting out.
One of the people whom caught wind of the strange powers that Sundance possessed recognized them for what they were. He was a court magician, a scholar of old magic’s handed down for generations, dark rituals and enchantments. He knew that it was possible to capture Djinn, bind their power and use it, transforming these might beings into slaves. He vowed to have Sundance as his own.
Knowing he could never stand a chance of overpowering Sundance, he instead turned to trickery. The Mage invited Sundance’s companion, the merchant, along with dozens of other vendors, to come to his court and show him there wares. It was all a ploy, and it worked. Sundance and the merchant went to the mages home, hoping to make a sale, never suspecting the danger. Faking an interest in the merchant’s wares, he and Sundance were invited to spend the night, with the promise of finalizing the purchases in the morning. That morning never came. In the middle of the night, the mage acted, weaving his spells. What the foolish mage failed to realize was that the spell he was invoking was a ritual to draw the attention of an archdemon, Mephisto.
The melovolent fiend took notice of the mages call, and took action, ever eager to add another soul to his collection. Sending a duplicate of himself to answer the call, 'Mephisto' appeared before the mage and herd the mans desire to gain rulership over the djinn. Mephisto saw an opportunity and considered the matter. On the one hand, here was ot only a powerful being, but a soul which seemd to not posess so much as a spark of anger or darkness. Such a pure entity would certainly make a fine prize, yet on the other hand, perhaps she could be useful to him before he laid his claim. Here was a way to corrupt mortals and make them vulnerable to his temptation. Acting to take advantage of this opportunity, he agreed, and using his fell power, Mephisto bound Sundance to a small emerald, bodily drawing her down into the gemstone. In exchange, he laid his claim to the mans soul, the first of many that Sundance would help me aquire.
Sundance was next aware of emerging from her prison, now bound to serve the will of the mage who had trapped her. Though she hated being forced to obey, she hated even more the doldrums of it. He wished for nothing but power and wealth. It was boarding. She couldn’t leave to explore, she couldn’t have fun she wanted; she couldn’t do anything but stand by her master and fulfill his pointless requests. There was no joy in helping a man who cared only for power. Everything she did was either to get him more wealth, more fame, or a way to protect them. She hated him, yes, but even that was temporary, because as he aged and turned into a brooding old man, she began to pity him.
It was around this time that her companion, the merchent, whom had been driven from the palace after Sundance had been captured, since he was no longer needed. He wanted to aid his companion, yet did not know how to go about doing so. That was until Mephisto appeared before him, disguised as a mortal man, offering to rescue Sudance from her master in exchange for his soul. The merchent agreed, thus marking the second soul that Sundance had ignorently allowed to fall into Mephisto's hands. Thoguh subtle manipulation, Mephisto used his power to help a small time theif steal Sundance's gemstone, thus 'freeing' her from her master by giving her a new one.
Thus began a long cycle of exchanging hands, the plan Mephisto made working flawlessly. Sundance would serve each master in turn, providing him or her with every little want they could imagine. In time, those whom possessed ownership of her came to relay almost devoutly on Sundance to provide for them. Then Mephisto would intervine from the sidelines, shift events to ensure Sundance changed hands and found a new master. The old owner, occatiaonly with a little additional prompting taking the form of losing everyhting Sundance had given them, would then be all to willing to make a deal with Mephisto to regain the fruits that Sundance had brought them. Perhaps the masterstoke of this plan was its subtlty. Sundance herself was unaware of the role she played, and her charminly simplistic nature and cheerful disposition were both captivating and disarming. In a word, she was perfect bait.
For her own part, Sundance was left to 'ripen', her soul a prize worth waiting for, one which could be savored. Her selfless kindness and giving making her raise higher and higher goodness, which would make her all the more sweet when she finally fell.
Though Sundance has had many, many masters over the centuries, including one whom saw fit to have her gemstone set in a silver braclet for ease of carrying, she has come to accept, perhaps even enjoy her position. Yes, it can be burdensom having to attend to trifiling matters for masters which she didnt get along with, yet she still did find a satisfaction in helping others, seeing the joy on their faces that she could bring. She never suspected the darker work taking place in her wake, or that her movment accrost the globe was all a result of strings pulled from the shadows. She was, and still is, blissfully ignorent of the true events which orbit her.
