First Name: Grant
Last Name: Marlowe
Alias or Nick-name: Ion, Mutant 005, Charles Grant
Age: Real age: 53/ Phsycal age: 25
Height/Weight: 6' 1 196 lbs.
Eyes: Green
Hair: Brown
Persuasion: Good
Powers/Weapons: Ion has the inate ability to control and manipulate the atoms in his surronding enviornment, which allows him to have an uncanny sense of awareness. This gives him the power to not just see any object down to it's atomic structure, but the ability to brake the structure down and reshape it in any matter he sees fit. This also allows him to alter the state of the atoms, whether from neutral to magnatised or from slow-moving(cold) to fast-moving(hot). Before Ion's accendent, the level of control he once had was the same level as Magneto.
His ability to sense his environment gives him an early warning scense, much like Spider-Man's spider-scense. This is because Ion can detect the dust particals in the air beinging disturbed.
Because of Ion's inate ability to control atoms, his body naturally produces a protective barrier, which protects him from various harmful elements, like bacteria, extreme heat/cold, and harmful skin contact with certain mutants. He can also create barriers, gather the energy from atoms into a beam of enery called an Atomic Blast, or concentrate the atoms into a form of combustion, allowing him to fly.
History: Grant Marlowe was born in a reality where Prof. Charles Xavier died early in age. Instead of marrying Kurt Marko, Xavier' mother, Sharon Xavier, met a man named Kane Marlowe, who was a member of The Six American Warriors during WWII. They were married and made Charles' little brother, Grant. The two boys were best of friends, all the way through college. They were both drafted and went seperate places: Charles served in Asia, while Grant served in the South Africa. While in the South Africa, Grant's latent powers emerged during a rebal attack.
After the service, Grant followed his brother Charles on his travels. While in Cairo, the two battled a powerful entity, known as the Shadow King. After defeating him, the two swear to protecting humanity from evil mutants and safeguarding innocent mutants from human oppression. After traveling to Iran, where they met Erik Lehsherr, the man who would be Magneto, the two battled an alien who called himself Lucifer. During the fight, Charles was killed, which led Grant to swear that he would continue his brother's dream for peace between humans and mutats.
With the help of his friend, Moira McTaggert, Marlowe founded a school for young mutants. There, he developed a special device to locate mutants, called Cerebro. Using it, he recrutied and trained the first of the X-Men: Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel, and Iceman. Over the years, more mutants joined the X-Men, including Cyclops' brother Havok, Wolverine, Colossus, and many more.
Grant formed a special connection with the mutant called Storm, who later on became his wife. The two had a child, Emily Marlowe. However, Emily was born without the mutant X-gene. After much debate, Grant and Ororo decided to give Emily to the Grey's, hoping that she would grow up believing that Jean was her older sister.
A major event that changed Marlowe's life was during a massive mutant civil rights raily in Washington D.C., where hundreds of mutants were attacked by anit-mutant groups. The X-Men were called in to suppress the riot. Unfortunately, hundreds of mutants were killed that night, including Marlowe's wife, Storm.
This caused him to leave the very X-Men he formed for a short time, and changed his name to Charles Grant, after his brother. It was during this time that he had many adventures with other known superheros, like Spider-Man, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four. He eventually came across the then Brotherhood of Evil Mutants' member, Rogue. He was able to convincer her to leave the Brotherhood and together they returned to the X-Men, where she became not only a loyal and invaluable member, but also Marlowe's second wife.
A few years later, a group of mutant mercenaries called the Maraduers, located the home of the subterranian mutants, the Morlocks, and proceeded to kill most of the inhabitants. The X-Men were able to stop them from killing some of the Morlocks, but losed Angel. Before leaving, Ion discovered the reluctent leader of the Maraduers, Gambit, who saved the life of a little girl. After hearing his case, Ion offered Gambit a spot on the team as a form of atonement, but was turned down. Ion adopted the little Morlock girl, Sarah, who later grew up to be Marrow, a loyal member of the X-Men.
Years later, the X-Men became so self-sustaining that Ion turned leadership of the team over to Cyclops, but continued to be a mentor to his students. After a while, he became nostagic of the old days when he trained the first X-Men. Thus, he formed the Gen. X, which had members like Mirage, Cannonball, Wolfbaine, Sunspot, Karma, Magik, Chamber, Shatterstar and an alien named Warlock. Ion also worked with the government to form a special mutant task force, consisting of mostly imprisoned mutants. The team was called X-Force, and had members like Gambit, Jubilee, Meltdown, Rictor, Berserker, Skin, Thunderbird, Pyro II(Rusty Collins), and at one time, Sabertooth.
The pivitol point in not just Ion's life, but both the X-Men and Gen. X, was when Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants gained the passesion of technology that allowed them to travel great distances. With it, Magneto planned to execute a massive world wide attack. However, the machine, based on the murdered mutant Gateway, attracted the attention of a powerful mutant called Mr. Siniter. He and his loyal subjects, which included the Maraduers, wanted the technology for themselfs. With the combined force of the X-Men and Gen. X, an all-out battle erupted, causing the death of many mutants from all sides, including Mr. Sinister.
During the battle, the machine became damaged and opened a powerful portal. When Ion overheard one of Magneto's men say that the portal would close if someone went through, he looked over at his students, both alive and dead, and decided to sacrifed himself. While he traveled through the bio-electric tunel, the surroneding electrons reacted to his natrual barrier, causing him to grow younger.
When he exited the portal, he emered in the present reality. He quickly discovered that his mastery over his powers were not as they were in his reality. A stranger to this world, Ion now seeks for a way to get back to his reality.
